Another meeting in May with a fintech firm for Gibraltar’s Minister for Commerce, Mr Albert Isola, this time with Mian Manoff, a key member of the senior management team of the Huobi Group. Alongside the Minister welcoming Huobi to Gibraltar were Joey Garcia of Isolas and Paul Astengo, of Gibraltar Finance.
The meeting took place at the Token Summit in New York and follows a visit to Gibraltar by some of Huobi’s senior executives. The team had been in Gibraltar to meet with the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) to discuss their application for a DLT licence and they also met with Gibraltar’s Chief Minister, Mr Fabian Picardo.
Huobi Global is one of the largest firms in Asia in this sector, with some 800 staff. It was the jurisdiction’s supportive DLT Regulatory Framework, which came into effect in January 2018, which attracted the firm to Gibraltar.
Huobi was founded in 2013 having recognised the great potential of the blockchain industry to revolutionise the future of the global financial system. The firm’s founders set up Huobi.com with a mission to both make the financial industry more efficient, and to make wealth more accessible to everyone. Widely-recognised as a world-leading cryptocurrency financial services group, Huobi Global has a presence in over 130 countries across the globe, with offices in Singapore, United States, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong.
